Just because of a close fight you forgot how he defeated cotto, margarito, dela hoya, mosley, & hatton. Styles make fights & Marquez is an intelligent and a great counter puncher who knows how to fight manny. As compared to the bigger opponents of pacquiao, I think marquez is better in terms of skills though I don’t think marquez will stand against them simply because those guys will be too heavy for him to handle. That’s why Pacquiao is a different level fighter, he belongs to the all time greats, he’s a special force since he has done things that he’s not expected to do. He has achieved something that nobody has ever and perhaps will never be achieved by any fighter. But Marquez will ever be pacquiaos greatest challenge because his style fits to pacquiaos. But that doesn’t mean marquez is as great as pacquiao in the same way that the fighters who knocked down marquez can not be considered in the league of pacquiao. Marquez has not achieved what pacquiao has done but he has proven his greatness by putting up a fight against manny which the better fighters than him like dela hoya, or mosley has not done.

Manny is never pretending to be the great fighter he is today. He proved it a million times. How can you be interpreted as pretending when the facts states that he retired dela hoya after 9 rounds of beating, he TKOed Cotto, he punished Margarito, mosley and clottey. Even before the 3rd fight of marquez and pacquiao, the 1st and 2nd fights were all very close. So it just means that the styles of both fighters fits with each other. If pacquiao fights Cotto again, 99% the result will still be the same and same goes with margarito or mosley and you probably will remember again how great pacquiao is. Please don’t think that pacquiao is just pretending to be a great fighter because of the result of that fight. It simply shows that styles make fights and the style that will give pacquiao a hard time is the style of marquez.

I respect your observation on the survey result and I have to admit I’m one of those who thought the fight was a draw but I also have to say that after watching the fight a couple of times, I could see why the judges saw Pacman as the winner.
On the perception that Pac has an unfinish business with Marquez, that may be the case when you first look at it but it you’ll give more time in analyzing it… They’ve already fought 3 times, all were close fights with debatable results, so what do you think will happen if they’ll face again? For me, it’s a waste of time (not for Bob, of course) and a lot of boxing experts, as what I have read, thinks the same.
In relation to the interest of most of us have; regarding Pac and Floyd fighting each other and Pacquiao may want to fight Marquez first? On the first statement, I think people would still be very much interested and look at that event separately and not relate it to Pac’s past performance with Marquez. On what Pacquiao would do considering the heap of bad / negative feedbacks that he is getting? I would think he’ll still move on to the Floyd fight and he should because as he said; he is not inspired in continuing to box anymore, its just his passion in this sport that pushes him to continue on, now. Considering that he is already satisfied with what we has accomplished and his other passion (he even used the word “calling”), public serivce, I think he will move on and not only close his boxing career very soon but closing it by fighting Floyd. I would think Floyd will, eventually, see it that way, too.
To summarize, I think Pac (regardless of what people think of his past performance) and Floyd (regardless of what he say that its all money to him) will realize that when it comes to both their legacies, fighting each (win or lose) will make the most sense and people will respect and applause it.
You dudes don’t know shit about boxing, Martinez started boxing at 20 years old, at welterweight, with NO amateur experience. He is a junior middleweight, fighting at middle weight because he’s that good. Just like pacquaio fights at 147 when he’s really a 140. Figure it out.

Marquez won. I’m Filipino but I gotta give it to Marquez. He won the fight by a W-I-D-E margin. Manny did so many things wrong in the fight.
1.) Freddie said they’ve been working on a hard jab. I didn’t see it.
2.) Freddie said they were working on moving to the right. Manny moved the wrong direction the entire fight.
3.) Team Pacquiao said Manny has a new technique to draw his opponents to him (other than baiting himself.) I didn’t see it.
4.) Marquez 1/2 stepped backwards for most of the fight. A SURE sign that someone is counter-fighting you. So what does Manny do?? He follows him for the entire fight?!?! That’s crazy!
5.) Marquez jab fakes high and goes to body shots. So what does Manny do? He keeps his guard high and moves straight back?!?!? Huh??? Come on! Nacho has always said Manny keeps his guard high. I can’t believe Manny fell for that!
6.) Manny kept on going for long straight lefts from the outside. So what does Marquez do?? He saves his energy and waits to counter, 3-4 short, tight shots to Manny’s 1. So what does Manny do? He does the same thing the whole fight and he double jabs in the air. Marquez just steps backwards and around.
7.) Marquez continues to throw the straight right effectively. So what does Manny do instead of taking away Marquez’ right hand by moving to his own right. He moves the wrong direction – LEFT. This even though it’s in Manny’s nature to move in that direction because he’s a southpaw. Oh well.
8.) Marquez steps on his foot at least 17 times while landing shots. So what does Manny do?? Instead of keeping his right foot outside of Marquez’ lead foot and using a hard jab (that they supposedly worked on,) his faster speed, and feet, Manny squares up in front of Marquez, walking him down. Someone needs to tell Manny that he doesn’t have Floyd’s movement from the waist and 2 step footwork that makes him so economical a fighter.
Oh well…. I often think. If you wanna lose a fight. Just do what Manny did. You’ll be a success.
On the other side of that. I think Manny could have won that fight, if he used the movement and patience that he used with De La Hoya… along with some of his new tools and timing.
I’m hoping Manny just had a brain fart and a bad day. Congrats to Marquez for making the fight worth watching. Manny fought poorly.
